TRANSFER & EXTERNAL ACADEMIC CREDIT

Students may receive transfer or external academic credit toward a Randolph-Macon College degree in accordance with the Transfer & External Academic Credit Policy. Randolph-Macon College has the authority to determine whether transfer and external credit will be accepted and how it applies to degree requirements.

TAKING A COURSE AT ANOTHER COLLEGE

Current Randolph-Macon students who plan to take coursework at another college or university while enrolled at Randolph-Macon must obtain prior approval from the Registrar and the appropriate academic department before registering for the course. To request approval, submit the Transfer Credit Permission Form.

To receive transfer credit:

  • Obtain approval before enrolling.
  • Earn a grade of C- or higher.
  • Complete the approved course.
  • Have an official transcript sent directly to Randolph-Macon College.

Transfer credit is awarded as credit hours only and does not affect the Randolph-Macon College GPA.

UNDERSTANDING TRANSFER CREDIT EQUIVALENCY CODES

If a transfer course is equivalent to a Randolph-Macon College course, it will appear with that course number (for example, HIST 211).

If a transfer course does not have a direct Randolph-Macon equivalent but is accepted for credit, an equivalency code indicates how the course may be applied toward degree requirements.

  • 010      Elective credit only.
  • 020      General Education requirement only.
  • 030      General Education and major/minor credit.
  • 040      Major/minor credit only.

For majors and minors with grouped requirements, the final digit identifies the applicable group. For example, 033 or 043 indicates that the course satisfies a Group III requirement.
